Why Hongdae Feels Alive Even After Midnight

The first thing I noticed in Hongdae wasn’t the music.
It was the energy.
Even after midnight, the streets were still full of people laughing, performing, eating, filming videos, and searching for somewhere to go next.
At first, I thought it would feel chaotic.
But strangely, it didn’t.
There was a kind of freedom in the atmosphere.
Street dancers performed beside convenience stores.
Buskers sang in tiny alleys.
Groups of students sat outside talking for hours as if time didn’t matter.
One night around 2AM, I bought iced coffee from a convenience store and simply walked through Hongdae without any plan.
That became one of my favorite memories in Seoul.
Not because something dramatic happened.
Because the city itself felt alive.
